Welcome to Kindergarten at Roosevelt, room 103!!!

Summer fun in the BWCA.

Hello!
I am Laurie Roberts, one of the three kindergarten teachers at Roosevelt Elementary School.  I'm very excited to be teaching our youngest learners; what an awesome age to watch as they become readers, mathematicians, and scientist! This will be a wonderful year of learning and growing together!

I grew up in Missouri, lived in Arkansas a number of years, and have been in Mankato for over 20 years. My family and I moved here when my husband took a teaching job at then Mankato State University. We have two sons, both young married adults. One lives here in Minneapolis and the other lives in southern Missouri. We also have two darling granddaughters.

My educational background includes two bachelor's degrees, one of those in Curriculum and Instruction, and a master's in Child Development. I have worked with children all of my adult life and have enjoyed it immensely. Everyday of guiding children is an adventure and a challenge which brings a lot of smiles and rewards. I am happy to be a Roosevelt "Raccoon" and to have the opportunity to teach with such a wonderful staff and such amazing students.

Kindergarten is a year of building a foundation of basic skills and concepts. We will be learning about numbers - adding, comparing, ordering, counting. We'll be talking about letters, sounds, words, and reading & writing stories.

You can help at home by reading to and with your child at least 30 minutes each day. Discuss the books that you are reading together. Talk about numbers while going about your daily life - while cooking and baking, making change at the store, and any other "teachable moments". Together, we will guide your young student as s/he learns and grows this kindergarten year.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact me by phone at 387.4285 (Roosevelt), or by email at . During the school day, I can be reached from 7:45 - 8:00, 1:00 - 1:45, and 2:45 - 3:30. I will return phone calls and answer emails as soon as possible.

This is going to be a great year of celebrating our learning, growing, and being the best we can be in all of life!!!
